Program Admission Requirements
A. Application Process:
1. Deadline: Complete and submit program application
by April 15th prior to desired entry in the Fall semester.
The application period is February 1st through April 15th
of each year. Applications received after April 15 may be
considered depending on space availability and the applicant’s
qualifications.
2. Procedure: During the February 1st through April
15th application period, you can call 733-7359 to have an
application mailed - OR - come by the Health Sciences Building,
Room 208 or the Health Sciences Annex Building Room HSA
136 to obtain an application.
3. Criteria for Selection: High School and College transcripts
or GED certificate, College Computerized Placement Tests
for Sentence Skills, Reading Comprehension, and Arithmetic
(through Elementary Algebra), typing skills, experience,
communication skills, and personal interview with screening
committee.
B. Physical Requirements: Include ability
for prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, stretching,
stooping, and lifting bundles of papers of at least 5 pounds.
Must have correctable visual acuity sufficient to read handwritten
reports, medical record information, and small (six point)
font print styles such as the following:
Inflammation of one or more of the intracranial venous sinuses
with the formation of a thrombus
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to speak, write,
and comprehend the English language proficiently. They must
also have the ability to communicate in a professional manner
with the general public and health professionals, use problem
solving skills, and function effectively under stress.
Applicants must possess entry level keyboarding/typewriting
skills. This requirement may be fulfilled by evidence of
passing a keyboarding/typing course in either high school
or college with at least a 2.0 point or C average; OR, if
no keyboard/typing experience, the student must enroll in
keyboarding/typewriting.
C. Notification of Acceptance: Applicants
will be notified by mail of their status in the program
by June 30th.
D. Drug Testing for candidates initially selected
for the program: Students who are initially selected
as a candidate into a Health Sciences Division program will
be required to pass a drug test for amphetamines, marijuana,
cocaine, PCP and opiates, before final acceptance into the
program will be granted.
E. NOTICE: Effective fall 2005, national
Criminal Background checks and Sexual Offender checks are
required. Students are responsible for the cost of these
checks and will be notified of the time frame for the checks
to be performed.
The COMPASS Assessment Test for Writing Skills, Reading Skills
and the COMPASS Algebra MUST be taken prior to applying to the Program.
The COMPASS Assessment is given in the Testing Center, Student Services
Building, Room 210 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday
and 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Fridays (Summer hours vary, contact
the Testing Center at (405) 733-7320 for information.). Students
can only take the COMPASS Assessment twice during one enrollment
period, eligibility for re-testing will be determined by the counselors
in the Student Services Building, Room SSB 100. A photo ID is required. Test results are available
immediately and entered into your student file on the College data
base. If the COMPASS Assessment scores are below the minimum standard
required, you must seek academic advisement for remediation. Forms
to take the COMPASS tests are provided in the Student Services Building,
room 100.
