Write of Spring

High School Writer's Workshop - March 27th - 8:30am to 1:30pm

Student

Your students will have the opportunity to:

  • Celebrate their creativity
  • Hone their writing skills
  • Meet and talk with other writers
  • Learn from award-winning authors
  • Listen to the pros read from their books
  • Get tips on publishing
  • Prepare for college

 

Featured Speaker: Marcia Preston

preston

Writing as M.K. Preston, Marcia is the author of an Oklahoma mystery series. Song of the Bones won the 2004 Mary Higgins Clark Award for suspense fiction, and also the 2004 Oklahoma Book Award in fiction. Her most recent novels are general fiction under the byline Marcia Preston and include The Butterfly House, The Piano Man, and Trudy’s Promise.

 

 

Schedule of Events:

8:30-9:00: Welcome

9:00: Fiction Writing with Tim Tharp


10:30: Poetry Writing with Carol Hamilton


12:00-1:30: Luncheon with Marcia Preston


All events will take place in the Professional Training and Education Center on Hudiburg Drive.

Carol Hamilton has served as Poet Laureate of Oklahoma and is an award winning poet and children’s book author. Her poetry chapbook Once the Dust won the Oklahoma Book Award and her children’s novel The Dawn Seekers won the Southwest Book Award. Shots On is the title of her newest book of poetry.

Tim Tharp, a professor at Rose State, is the author of three novels including the National Book Award Finalist, The Spectacular Now.
