The Dental Hygiene Program operates a modern 12-chair community clinic on the Rose State Campus. Established in 1970, the program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association. Clinical services are provided to the community during the fall and spring academic semesters.
The clinic is located at 6301 Tinker Diagonal, MWC, OK 73110 in the Allied Dental Education (ADE) building, south side of the campus on the north frontage road of I-40 eastbound at exit 156B Hudiburg Drive or 157A Southeast 29th Street. Westbound traffic exit at 157A. A designated parking area for patients is located on the west side of the ADE building near the flags. Ample parking, including disabled parking, is available. Patient Information
The clinic welcomes patients from the community, campus and around the state. Preventive dentistry can help you keep your teeth for a lifetime. The following services may be obtained in the Rose State College Dental Hygiene Clinic:
- Oral prophylaxis (teeth cleaning)
Scaling and polishing to remove plaque, stain and calculus (tartar) from the teeth and provide a healthy environment for the oral tissues. - Topical fluoride treatment
Strengthens the enamel by applying a varnish to prevent tooth decay. (Preceded by prophylaxis at the same appointment time.) - Dental Radiographs (dental x-rays)
X-rays will be taken as prescribed by the clinic supervising dentist. The films may be sent to your private dentist by request and payment of a small fee for mailing. - Preventive Patient Education
Demonstration and evaluation of preventive oral hygiene techniques and dietary counseling to help prevent and control oral disease. - Pit and Fissure Sealant
Preventive coating on the grooves and pits of the teeth to prevent tooth decay. (Preceded by prophylaxis and diagnosed by the clinic supervising dentist.) - General and Oral Health Assessment
This evaluation includes oral health assessment to include identification of dental caries (cavities), periodontal (gum) disease and oral cancer screening. Services also include careful review of medical and dental histories.
These services can be offered because dental hygiene students provide the services in a learning environment. Licensed dentists and licensed dental hygienists provide supervision during all clinical procedures. Due to the learning environment and level of supervision, appointments may be lengthier than in a private dental practice. Treatment frequently requires multiple appointments.
- Screening
The clinic follows the academic calendar and patients must be evaluated for acceptability. Patients aged 13 and older must be screened before receiving an appointment to have services. The screening appointment typically takes 30 minutes. Each patient completes a thorough health history form. Consultation with a physician may be necessary before treatment if the health history reveals contraindications to dental hygiene treatment. Call the clinic for information about available screening appointments. At the screening appointments, the level of oral disease present and level of difficulty will be determined. If accepted as a patient, you will then be contacted by a student to schedule an appointment. There is a nominal fee for screening. - Children
A limited number of children are accepted for treatment in the Dental Hygiene Program Clinic. No screening is required. Minors 3-12 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian complete documentation and written consent at the appointment. Parents are not allowed to accompany children into the Clinic and an adult must remain in the building throughout the appointment.
