About the Career Recruitment and Retention Committee (CRRC)

History

Former Oklahoma Library Association president, Sharon Saulmon, appointed this committee to carry out her theme "Librarians: Navigating the Information Future." The Navigating the Information Future (NIF) ad hoc committee's primary task was to promote retention and recruitment to the profession.

This recommendation from the Long-Range Planning Committee emphasized making OLA members aware of their influence on those with whom they come in contact and encourages librarians, trustees and library friends to grow librarians.

In 2002-2003 NIF became a standing committee under the new name Career Recruitment and Retention Committee (CRRC).

  Duties and responsibilities:

The committee is responsible for promoting recruitment and the retention of librarians and library staff in Oklahoma by:

  1. Promoting opportunities available to potential candidates to the profession by developing and/or distributing publicity materials about Librarians and using the Media to promote the profession with public service advertising.
  2. Educating and encouraging librarians in the profession by planning regional meetings, writing information on recruitment and retention strategies for library publications, and maintaining an OLA Web page reporting recruitment and retention activities.
  3. Sponsoring the development of a Student Library Association.
  4. Sponsoring OLA Conference programs on librarian and library staff recruitment and retention.
  5. Promoting activities which encourage diverse multi-cultural participation in librarianship and involvement in the Oklahoma Library Association.
  6. Promoting other retention and recruiting activities, such as Job Shadow Day in Oklahoma.
