If you have a question concerning our telecourses, perhaps it has been answered below. If not, please contact the Distance Learning office. Questions concerning the requirements or content of a specific course should be directed to the course instructor if possible.
What is a Telecourse?
Telecourses are integrated learning packages that include a textbook, a study guide, and a series of professionally produced video lessons. These classes offer students an interesting and flexible alternative to traditional classroom instruction.
Who should take Telecourses?
Telecourses are best suited for motivated, independent learners.
How do I enroll in a Telecourse?
The procedure for enrolling in a telecourse is the same as enrollment for any other course.
Can I finish the course at my own pace, or do I have to follow the syllabus exactly?
Most professors will set up a deadline for each test. You may finish the course ahead of schedule, but most professors discourage waiting until the last minute to complete the course.
What is the purpose of the mandatory orientation?
You will meet your professor, receive your syllabus for the course, and have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. They will also give you their contact information, as well as requesting yours.
What do I do if I miss the orientation for a telecourse?
It is very important for you to be at the orientation at the time it is scheduled. However, if you are unable to make it, contact your professor and make an appointment to get the necessary information from them.
How long does the orientation last?
It varies, depending on the professor and the amount of information they have to provide. All courses except for Spanish courses are scheduled to last thirty minutes. The Spanish Telecourse has a ninety-minute orientation.
If I have a question, should I contact the Distance Learning Department, or my professor directly?
If you have a general Telecourse question, you may contact the Distance Learning Department, but if your question deals with the course specifically, you should contact your professor.
Where do I get the videotapes?
Telecourse videotapes are located in the Audio Visual Department at the LRC. There are Televisions and VCRs available in the LRC for viewing these tapes. You may also rent the telecourse videotapes for the semester from RMI Media Productions, Inc.
Can the telecourse videos be checked out?
No, but you may take a blank videocassette to the LRC, and use the dubbing machine to dub the video so that you can watch them at home.
Do I have to watch all of the videos if I have the textbook? Don't they contain the same information?
They do not contain the same information, and test questions are taken from both sources.
Where can I take the exams?
Exams are to be taken in the Testing Center, located on the first floor of the Learning Resources Center.
