High School Writer's Workshop - Friday, March 2, 2012 - 8:30am to 1:30pm

Your students will have the opportunity to:

Featured Speaker: Laura Zuniga

 Photo of Lauren ZunigaLauren Zuniga is the founder of Oklahoma Young Writers, a member of the State Art Council Touring Roster and has represented Oklahoma in 8 national poetry competitions. She is the 2012 Activist-in-Residence for the Center for Social Justice at the University of Oklahoma. She has toured from Canada to New York to Texas offering a fresh style of strong imagery and inspiring passion. Her work has been featured in several independent films, on XM radio, and in fun places like Muzzle Magazine and The Good Things About America anthology from Write Bloody Publishing. She was one of seven winners chosen for Write Bloody's 2011 open submission competition for her second poetry collection, Smell of Good Mud, to be released in April 2012. She currently lives with her two kids in an artist collective named Clementine.

Tim Tharp, a profesor of English, Humanities and Speech at Rose State, is the author of four novels including the National Book Award Finalist, The Spectacular Now and the new in paperback novel BADD, the story of a returning Iraq war veteran as seen thorugh the eyes of his teenage sister. His forthcoming novel Mojo will be released in 2013. 

 

 

Poetry Writing Workshop Facilitator:  Kristin Hahn

Kristin Hahn is a native of Oklahoma City. In 1999, she received her Master’s Degree in Contemporary Literature from the University of Central Oklahoma. For the last five years, she has taught writing, literature, and poetry at Rose State College in Midwest City. She is currently teaching a Poetry Writing class at Rose State College and will also be offering a continuing education poetry workshop this summer, which will be open to all. Schedule of Events:

  • 8:30-9:00: Registration in the Professional Training and Education Center (located on Hudiburg Drive). Doughnuts and juice will be provided.
  • 9:00-10:15: Fiction Writing Workshop with author, Tim Tharp
  • 10:15-10:30 Short Break
  • 10:30-11:45 Poetry Writing Workshop with poet Kristin Hahn
  • 12:00-1:30 Lunch and Keynote Speaker, Lauren Zuniga
