Curriculum

Beginning Track

The nursing program is 69-70 credit hours in length including 34-35 credit hours of general education and support coursework and 35 credit hours of nursing coursework.  The Beginning Track of the program can be completed in four (4) semesters, after completion of one (1) semester of pre-requisites, although most students complete most or all of the general education and support coursework prior to applying for admission into the program. Nursing classes must be taken in consecutive order even when most or all general education and support courses have been previously completed.  

Semester of Pre-Requisites (11 credit hours)

  • HSNS 1011 Intro to Professional Nursing Practice+* – 1 cr
  • ENGL 1113 English Comp I+* -- 3 cr
  • HSBC 1113 Medical Terminology* – 3 cr
  • CHEM 1114 Introductory Chemistry+* – 4 cr 

Semester I (16-17 credit hours)

  • HSNS 1118 Professional Nursing Concepts I+** – 8 cr
  • HSBC 1224 Intro to Clinical Microbiology** – 4 cr  or
    BIOL 2035 Principles of Microbiology+** – 5 cr (has additional pre-requisites)   
  • BIOL 2114 Human Anatomy+** -- 4 cr   

Semester II (15 credit hours)

  • HSNS 1218 Professional Nursing Concepts II+** – 8 cr 
  • BIOL 2424 Human Physiology+** – 4 cr
  • PSYC 1113 Intro to Psych** – 3 cr   

Semester III (14 credit hours)

  • HSNS 2118 Professional Nursing Concepts III+ – 8 cr
  • ENGL 1213 English Comp II+– 3 cr
  • POLS 1113 American Fed Government– 3 cr 

Semester IV (13 credit hours)

  • HSNS 2218Professional Nursing Concepts IV+ – 8 cr
  • HSNS 2212Advanced Professional Nursing Practice Concepts+ – 2 cr
  • HIST 1483 US History to 1877 or HIST 1493 US History since 1877 – 3 cr

*Course must be completed prior to eligibility for enrollment in the first semester or the Nursing Program.

**Course must be completed for eligibility for progression into the third semester of the Nursing Program.

Career Ladder Track

The nursing program is 69-70 credit hours in length including 34-35 credit hours of general education and support coursework and 35 credit hours of nursing coursework. The Career Ladder Track of the nursing program can be completed in two (2) semesters of coursework after completion of required pre-requisite coursework.  Nursing classes must be taken in consecutive order even when most or all general education and basic science courses have been previously completed. Career ladder applicants enter the nursing program in the third semester after meeting admission requirements.

**The Career Ladder Track student receives credit by advanced standing or challenge examination (5 credit hours for HSNS 1118 and 8 credit hours for HSNS 1218).
