Theatre (Fine Arts)
Program Overview
The Rose State College Theatre Program offers a two-year, comprehensive program that prepares the theatre major for transfer to a baccalaureate-granting institution. In addition to acting, students gain hands-on experience in such areas as scene painting, set building, and makeup. Four shows are produced every year. Students learn the nature of producing each show as well as building organization, teamwork, and leadership skills. Faculty and staff work closely with students in all aspects of the discipline. Rose State Theatre Department participates annually in the Kennedy Center/ American College Theatre Festival.
Program Objectives

- Students have the opportunity to work alongside professional guest artists.
- High level of opportunities to participate in productions allows students to get more exposure to theatre than they would at larger institutions.
- Students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the area of theatre that interests them: scene painting, set building, singing, acting, publicity, playwriting, stage managing, dramaturgy, etc.
- The collaborative nature of producing each show reinforces skills in organization, teamwork, leadership, and responsibility.
- Faculty and staff work closely with students in all aspects of the discipline.
- Students are encouraged to pursue a variety of internships in professional theatre.
Performance Venues
H.B. Atkinson Theatre
A 256-seat thrust theatre, which is a perfect performance space for intimate live performance. Acting and performance classes are also held in this space.
Hudiburg Chevrolet Performing Arts Theatre
The soaring Performing Arts Theatre seats 1,400. This acoustically-superb, nearly-new facility includes recent upgrades to the theatrical lighting system in 2011 and a half-million dollar sound renovation in 2012.

Atkinson Theatre
Called “the funniest farce ever written,” Noises Off presents a manic menagerie of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play. Rated PG-13

Atkinson Theatre
The musical, which premiered in 2016 at the Todd Wehr Theater in Milwaukee and Portland's Newmark Theatre, concerns Brooke and Zeke, who are starring in a mysterious show called The Phantom and are not frightened by the old legend that the play is cursed. When strange messages start appearing and a masked menace disrupts rehearsals, they begin to wonder if there is a ghost haunting their school, determined to stop the show. Rated PG

Britain's master farceur ( Two Into One, Run For Your Wife, et al. ) is at it again. Set in a hospital, It Runs in the Family contains the usual assortment of farcical nuts running in and out of doors mistaking everybody for someone else, as Dr. Mortimore tries to fend off a paternity suit, an ex wife, a punkish son and various other lunatics so that he may, at last, deliver the Ponsonby Lecture in an international conference. Transfer Agreements
