Worldmark Encyclopedia of the Nations (REF G63 W67)

Information on countries of the United Nations including names, maps, flags, national emblems, currency, holidays, income, and famous individuals. 

Countries of the World and Their Leaders Yearbook (REF G122 C67)

Contains brief information for different counties, such as, geography, people, history, government, economics, and travel.  

The Statesman’s Year-Book (REF JA51 S7)

Provides information for each country on history, area, population, climate, constitution, government, international relations, economy, energy, natural resources, industry, trade, communications, religion, education, and welfare. 

Clement’s Encyclopedia of World Governments (REF JF37 C53)

Provides information for each country on government officials, judicial systems, economic and foreign affairs, and selected statistical information. This series also has an update issued each month called Clement’s International Report, which gives information on current crises, changes in governments and articles on selected topics.  

The Europa World Year Book (REF JN1 E86)

Contains information on countries, such as, location, climate, recent history, government, defense, economic affairs, and social welfare. Also includes a statistical survey on: area and population, administrative divisions, principal towns, births and deaths, economically active population, agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing, mining, industry, finance, external trade, transport, tourism, and education. The book concludes with a section called "Directory" which gives information on the country’s constitution plus a directory of government, religious, media, and financial officials.

Political Handbook of the World (REF JF37 P6)

Provides information on the world’s political parties and their philosophies. 

World Encyclopedia of Political Systems & Parties (REF JF2011 W67)

Somewhat dated (1987) but useful information for most countries. Contains information on many different systems of government.

Statistics (NOTE: United Nations sources are usually 3-5 years behind the current year.)

Statistical Yearbook (REF HA12.5 U63)

This compilation from the U.N. gives a world summary and general socioeconomic statistics. Also, includes population, wages, prices, government, education, and statistics on basic economic activity, such as: manufacturing, energy, transportation, and communications.  

Demographic Yearbook (REF HA17 D45)

This annual publication from the U.N. gives statistics on population, births, deaths, marriages, educational characteristics, and economic characteristics.

Area Handbook Series (G123 A73)

Each volume covers a different country and contains information on its historical setting, society, geography, population, language, religion, education, economy, government, and national security. Volumes are available for checkout and are located on the second floor. The easiest way to find out if there is a book on a particular country is by doing a title search using the online card catalog.

Online Card Catalog

The RSC online card catalog is an index to the library’s books and audiovisual materials. You may search the catalog from any computer with Internet access. The online card catalog can be searched in a variety of ways most notably by TITLE, AUTHOR, SUBJECT, and KEYWORD.

Country Watch provides current information on countries.

EBSCOhost Databases

EBSCOhost is an online database service provider and is available from any computer with Internet access. The online databases provide indexing and full-text articles from periodicals and newspapers. MasterFILE Premier, Academic Search Elite, Military & Government Collection, SocINDEX with Full Text, Humanities International Complete, and Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia databases within EBSCOhost will be most helpful for your assignment.

Encyclopedia Britannica (Online)

The Encyclopedia Britannica is available online from any computer on campus with Internet access.


Although an unorganized resource, the Internet does contain valuable information. The library’s GOVERNMENT links will be most helpful for your assignment.
