About the Program

Rose State College is proud to be working with the First National Bank, City of Oklahoma City and Cornerstone Development to offer FREE training to students in Asbestos Abatement certification.  This program consists of several steps including physical tests and classroom instruction.  The first step begins with a prospective student meeting the following requirement attending a required Orientation to learn more about the event.  If the student is interested after attending Orientation, then they will be interviewed and the selection committee will choose 60 candidates.  If you are one of the 60 selected, you will be sent for a drug and background check.  Once students are approved after the drug and background check, there will be a series of tests required at no cost.  To summarize, the program contains the following:

Pre-Program Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Attend Orientation
  • Attend Interview

Once a student passes the pre-program requirements, the student will be scheduled for two (2) tests.

  • Pass drug screening
  • Pass Lung Function Test

Once a student passes the drug and lung function test, the student will be scheduled for the following:

  • Pulmonary Function Test (Test #3)
  • Respirator Medical Evaluation (Test #4)
  • Two view Chest X-Ray (Test #5)
  • Base Line Blood Test-Lead (Test #6)
  • Respirator Fit Test (Test #7)

Certification Classes presented in three (3) cohort sessions

  • Lead Awareness class, with EPA certification (1 day).
  • OSHA Confined Space Entry class (1 day).
  • Asbestos Training, EPA approve with DOL certification (4 days)

At the conclusion of the training the students will be provided a complete packet of all test results and course certifications to provide to our client to interview for one of 40 positions.  The positions are full-time, pay $15.00 per hour.  Rose State College cannot guarantee that you will be selected for employment even if you complete all tests and classes.  However, you will now be extremely marketable for employment elsewhere in the area of construction, asbestos abatement and working safely with lead paint.
