The Film Studies and Digital Media (FSDM) program at Rose State College partnered with Kids College/Teen Scene to deliver the Future Filmmaker Class, an immersive, fast-paced experience that guided students through the complete filmmaking process.
During last summer’s session, students collaborated to write, produce, and complete a short film in just three days. They created “The Not So Cheesy Mystery,” which showcased their creativity, teamwork, and storytelling skills. The film gained recognition beyond the classroom, earned selection at several local film festivals, and received an Award Winner title at the Oklahoma Teen Film Festival, hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma. The festival took place Saturday, March 28, on UCO’s campus in Edmond.
The three-day class followed an intensive, real-world production model. On the first day, students developed their scripts, learned the basics of film set roles, and selected their responsibilities, ranging from acting to directing and technical production. On the second and third days, students filmed their project using professional-grade equipment provided by the FSDM program. On the final day of camp, students screened their film and created their own marketing materials to take home, completing the full lifecycle of a film project.
At the OK Teen Film Festival, students learned hands-on filmmaking skills to produce this award-winning short. Through this experience, students gained valuable insights into the film industry and strengthened their soft skills, which will be valuable in furthering their education and preparing them to enter Oklahoma’s workforce.
