Midwest City, Okla. – Enrollment is on the rise at Rose State College - specifically due to an increase in first-time students over fall 2014.

The College's fall semester is underway with 8,957 enrollments. The number of first-time student enrollments is 2,122, up 6.3 percent from the same time last year. That number is reflective of graduating high school seniors entering college.

The increased enrollment can be attributed to a number of offerings at the college including new student housing which opened early August. The 170-bed apartment complex on the Rose State campus is the only urban community college offering residence life. In addition, Rose State has added men’s and women’s soccer to its athletics program. These serve as a complement to the already successful baseball and softball programs at the College.

Rose State also offers one-of-a kind leadership programs with nine scholarship opportunities for students.

Aaron Frerichs is a first-time student at Rose State from Meeker, Oklahoma, majoring in Engineering. “I picked Rose State College because I had the chance to come here and be involved in a leadership program instead of going to another state school and having to fight a battle to get into that program,” Aaron said.

Aaron was offered a scholarship to another Oklahoma school but says his choice was not about money as much as it was size. “Here you can make a significant difference in the time that you have as well as the attention and quality of time that you have with teachers in your overall education,” Frerichs said.

“The enrollment increase is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every faculty member and in particular our recruitment team,” said President Dr. Jeanie Webb. “We are off to a great start this fall at Rose State and the future looks bright for the College and students.”

Rose State anticipates, while it is still enrolling students, it will see a 1% increase overall in enrollments from last year.
