Midwest City, Okla. – Rose State Raiders softball pitcher and designated player, Katie Ventress was named NJCAA Region 2 1st Team All-Region and NJCAA 3rd Team All-American.

Ventress, a graduate from Bethany High School, dominated her final season as a Rose State Raider.  In 60 games she ended the season with a batting average of .503, setting a Rose State College single season record, had 19 doubles, 11 homeruns as well as setting the Rose State record for most hits in a season with 89.  She also set the single season RBI record with 74, and the career RBI record with 89.

Rose State College Head Coach Nickie Madden said, “Katie came to Rose State College with a goal to help grow this program and leave her mark on its record books; she definitely achieved those goals.  Katie is one of the hardest workers you will come across and is determined to keep getting better. It has been a pleasure coaching her for 2 years and it’s exciting to have her be our first All-American since I took over the program.  I am extremely proud of her and I know she will go on to do great things.”

When asked how it feels to be honored for her accomplishments Katie said, “To be able to receive an award like this is just amazing and a dream come true and shows that you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it, work hard and never quit.”  Katie also discussed how positive her experience at Rose State was and the influence Coach Madden had to push her and the team to become better every day.  “The academic programs are impeccable and the staff is just as wonderful.  No one gets treated as a student on this campus, everyone is treated as a family member and that is rare to find on a college campus.”

Katie graduated in May with a Liberal Arts degree and plans to earn a Master’s in Business Management.  She will continue her educational journey and softball career on scholarship at Southwest Kansas University in Winfield, KS.
