Do More With Rose State’s FLEX Classes Published December 16, 2021

Do more with rose state college flex classesIn the fall of 2020, Rose State College rolled out FLEX courses in an effort to help students attain their academic goals no matter the situation. FLEX classes are made with the students’ schedules in mind, allowing us to meet our students where they are in their educational journey.

The FLEX option is a combination of in-person, online and Zoom classes. Classes are set up with scheduled meeting times, room location and a professor. The difference is that the students choose how they want to take the course. FLEX courses allow a student to meet face-to-face in the classroom, but the same class can be taken online or via Zoom.

Instructors can share course material that a student may have missed either by posting the recording in Canvas or sharing the recording with students when appropriate. Remember that a recorded lecture is not always an equivalent experience to attending class, especially courses that involve writing, lab work or performances.

“Three of my four classes are FLEX. It’s a nice option. If you don’t feel like going to class in person, you can just Zoom in and your professor will count you as present,” Rose State freshman and business major Connor Benn said. “If you have a doctor’s appointment or something like that, there’s always that flexibility with your professors.”

If a student enrolled in a FLEX course attends classes only in-person but later decides remote learning is the better option for them due to personal reasons, they can do so because instructors build this flexibility into the structure of the course. It is not an exception or special arrangement you would need to pursue.

By offering this new type of course option, Rose State ensures that if a student’s life changes, their education plan does not have to.

Like all the other courses, FLEX classes will have a course page in Canvas, Rose State College’s learning management system, where students can complete activities and submit coursework.

In addition to the FLEX option, many classes are available 100% online. Even certificates can be completed online in just two semesters in general business, management, marketing/social media, small business operations, supply chain logistics and multimedia.

Spring semester classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 18 – enroll today for online, in-person or FLEX classes. The deadline to apply for the first eight-week session is Jan.18-20.
