Even though you’re an online student, you can still enroll in study abroad trips. I enrolled in the Italy-Croatia trip. I booked the trip through Rose State and was able to meet other students and alumni.

It`s National Internship Day! Meet Travis, a RSC student who told us about his internship experience with Norman Public Schools 🌟
Q: What is your major at Rose State College?
A: Cybersecurity.
Q: Where did you intern?
A: Norman Public Schools.
Q: What was your role?
A: Summer Technology Assistant.
Q: How long was your internship?
A: A little over 2 months.
Q: What did you learn during your internship?
A: I learned the inner workings of a school IT department. Mainly, what they do over the summer while students are away: update their devices, perform a complete IT inventory check, bring new devices into use, and remove outdated devices from use. Occasionally, I assisted with support tickets, the help desk, and other specific projects.
Q: Why are internships valuable for your future goals?
A: I want to work in the IT field after graduation, so it was necessary for me to gain real-world experience. My classes taught me the basic concepts of IT and cybersecurity. My internship showed me how they are used in a real setting. In the IT field, having a degree certainly helps in getting a job, but a degree alone will not make you a quality candidate for most jobs. Beyond gaining experience, this internship allowed me to build my professional network and prove my worth to a potential employer.
Q: What advice do you have for someone looking for an internship?
A: Finding an internship is a lot like finding a job. Use all your available resources, both at college and beyond, to find an internship. Ask your academic advisor, your professors, your career advisor, and even your classmates. If you know someone who might have a lead, ask them. Do not just look for an internship on online job boards. Reach out directly to hiring managers or representatives from organizations that you want to intern at. You do not know what an organization will offer you unless you ask.
