Important Information

ORWA has coordinated with EPA to distribute free, washable and reusable cloth (cotton) face masks provided by FEMA. These masks are available to all water and wastewater system full-time employees, regardless of size, while supplies last. These masks will be available for pickup at various distribution points around the State of Oklahoma. Masks are limited to 10 masks per full-time water and/or wastewater employee and will be available on a first come, first served basis until the supply is depleted.

To request your free face masks and choose your preferred pick up location using the link below. Once your request has been submitted, please allow at least 1 business day for your order to be processed, then contact your chosen pick up location to schedule a pick up time.

Face Mask Request Form

The pick up locations, along with addresses, contact info with a link to google maps, are listed here:

Pick Up Locations

Multiple systems in the same area may coordinate between themselves and select an individual to pick up the masks for those systems. The individual who picks up the masks will be responsible for distributing the masks to those systems.

Each system must submit a request and list the person who will be picking up their masks.

Because of demand and reduced class sizes, Rose State’s Oklahoma Environmental Training Center (OETC) has added 6 more dates for water & wastewater operator renewal classes from July through September. DEQ reports that only 2,000 operators out of 7,000 in the State have completed their operator training. With the extended deadline in September, we are working hard to meet the needs of our operators.

Rose State pioneers online delivery of required municipal renewal certifications

In an effort to meet the increasing demands of social distancing and sheltering in place, Rose State has well-established Water and Wastewater online certification courses with new classes joining the on-line platform in the future. The convenience of online delivery helps meet the annual certification renewal requirements mandated by the Department of Environmental Quality. In addition to mitigating the impact of COVID-19, online delivery will also save municipalities across the state valuable travel time to authorized training sites. At this time, Rose State is the only college offering these renewal certifications online.

Re: Operator Certification License Renewal Requirements

Due to the unprecedented threat of the Novel Coronavirus/COVID-19, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has suspended the deadline for the requirement of having four (4) hours of training in order to renew operator certification licenses by July 1, 2020 (the upcoming renewal
period).

Late fees will not be assessed for applying for license renewal after July 1, 2020. The grace period that normally exists, July 1-31, will be extended through September 30, 2020, We will be monitoring the situation for further adjustments as needed.

We understand and promote the need for social distancing during this period of uncertainty. Therefore, we are taking additional precautions including suspending the review or approval for any training sessions scheduled between today and May 31, 2020. Classes already approved can be conducted at the discretion of the instructor, venue and if it can be conducted within the requirements established by the State of Oklahoma, county and city of the location. The DEQ recommends the postponement of all classes through April 15 or until the declared State of Emergency has been lifted.

Students that have already been approved for testing can choose to attend their designated class if it is conducted (contact the instructor in advance to verify status of testing), or students can reschedule with no penalty for up to 180 days following the originally scheduled class/test.

These measures will contribute to slow the spread of COVID-19. As the situation evolves, additional adjustments may be needed. If you have questions, please contact the DEQ Operator Certification program at 405-702-8100.

Sincerely,
Shellie R. Chard, Director
Water Quality Division
