Eligibility Requirements
EmPower is an employment training program designed to meet the needs of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF recipients). Fast-Track Training provides comprehensive, short term training to enable clients quick entry into the workforce, including a six-month follow-up/mentoring plan to promote retention. Participants who attend this 35 hour-per-week program receive training in areas such as MS Office and other computer applications, English, medical terminology, customer service, and job readiness.
Potential students must have a high school diploma or GED and must score at least a 6th grade reading level on the advanced version of the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education). For more information, contact our office at (405) 736-0358.
College Credit
EmPower has a college credit option available to all qualified students who are referred by their caseworker at the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Students may pursue an Associate Degree or college certificate while receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). All EmPower college students must participate in college classes, structured and supervised homework labs and other academic enrichment activities totaling 35 hours per week
Eligibility Requirements
Students in the program must be eligible for admission, have a high school diploma or GED, and take a COMPASS or ACT test for placement in their coursework. Caseworkers may consider scores on the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) test when determining if a student will be successful in this program.
TANF recipients are given the TABE test during their application and orientation at OKDHS for TANF benefits. Students who need to take a number of remedial classes (non-credit) to prepare for college level work are discouraged from participating in this program.
