Leaders Are Developed at Rose State College Published May 18, 2015 by Ali Sexton

Incoming and Outgoing leadership students get acquainted at a luncheon hosted by Rose State CollegeMidwest City, Okla. – Students from across the state applied for Rose State College’s prestigious leadership programs. What started with ten students in a President’s Leadership Class scholarship in 2001 has now grown into 120 students in seven cohort groups of scholarship recipients.

They come to Rose State for all different reasons. Brittany Deardorff, 2015 graduate of McLoud High School says that she applied for a leadership scholarship because, “all throughout high school leadership has been something I strived for…and I want to continue learning.” Recipients are chosen based on a combination of academic merit, involvement in leadership roles, and his/her record of community engagement and service. It is a goal of the college to develop each student’s leadership ability and prepare them to continue to be successful after they earn their first degree at Rose State College.

Most students maintain the scholarship for two full academic years before earning their associate degree and transferring to finish a bachelor’s degree. In their time at Rose State College, the students take a leadership development course with their peers, attend education and cultural activities both on and off campus, and build relationships with administrators that last well beyond their time at RSC.
