Vision Moves a College and Community Forward

Midwest City, Okla. – Rose State’s President, Dr. Jeanie Webb, received the Midwest City Chamber of Commerce Visionary Leader Award at its annual chamber banquet. The award, in its second year, is given to an individual who shows vision and leadership in advancing goals and ideas for growth and brings those ideas to life.

In the last three years, since taking over as President of the college, Dr. Webb has successfully managed a 22-million dollar bond project approved by the voters. That project enhanced the aquatic center which is used by a large portion of the community in addition to more than a dozen upgrades across the campus. Upgrades include enhanced Wi-Fi and the building of a Learning Resource Center to serve as a focal point for students and the community. 

Dr. Webb, through the support of student leadership, brought to life the first housing unit at an urban community college in the state. The opening of The Village at Rose State in the fall of 2015, welcomed a maximum occupancy of 170 students and provided a unique experience for incoming college bound students. 

Through her reorganization of college divisions, Dr. Webb has put a renewed emphasis on recruitment and in the spring of 2016 has one of the highest first-time student enrollments in recent years with an 18% increase in enrollment over this time last year. 

Not only President Webb but Rose State Regent Betty J.C. Wright, and Rose State Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Francis Hendrix, have recently received awards of excellence. Regent Wright received the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award sponsored by the Franklin County, Florida Commissions and Franklin County School District where Ms. Wright attended K-12. The award is given to outstanding persons who exhibit the characteristics of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: loyalty, a passion for learning, integrity, honesty, courage, and perseverance. 

Dr. Hendrix was selected to receive the Administrator/Public Servant for Outstanding Support to Developmental Education from the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE). This award recognizes the special supporting role of individuals other than professional developmental  education professionals to the success of developmental education. Under the guidance of Dr. Hendrix, Rose State faculty have aggressively worked to build accomplished programs that further the success of at-risk college students in subjects such as reading and math.
