Tutoring Center

Overview

The Tutoring Center, located in LRC 250, is a quiet space where students can study and receive tutoring assistance when needed. Tutoring is not a replacement for prerequisite coursework. We ask that students refrain from loud or prolonged social conversations while using the Tutoring Center. Free tutoring is available to Rose State College students on a drop-in basis or by scheduled appointment for many general-education courses (subject to tutor availability). Students that need in-depth assistance may schedule an immediate session with an available tutor or a later time when it is more convenient. The Tutoring Center has many current math and science textbooks that students may reference while studying in the Tutoring Center. Scientific and graphing calculators are also available for use in the Tutoring Center.

WCOnline

Students may schedule tutoring appointments with our local tutors through WCOnline. Before scheduling a tutor the first time, students must create an account using their Raider email address. To book an appointment, sign in with your Raider email address and password. If you forget your password, you may reset your password from the login page.

A tutor does:

  • Promote independence in learning
  • Facilitate students’ insights and light bulb moments
  • Make an effort to reinforce classroom methods
  • Respect individual differences
  • Make sure the concepts are understood
  • Model good learning habits

A tutor does not:

  • Teach or lecture class material
  • Contradict instructors’ methods
  • Know everything
  • Do the work for the student
  • Help on quizzes or tests

Student Expectations

  1. Students need to know their Student ID number.
  2. Students should set all electronic devices to silent. If you must answer your cell phone, please leave the Tutoring Center before answering the call.
  3. Computers in the Tutoring Center are for study and class activities only. Students should not surf the internet or send personal emails from these computers. The Open Computer Lab in the Library may be used for more general purposes.
  4. Please do your part to keep the noise level low so others can concentrate.
  5. Please be respectful towards peers and staff.
  6. Please eat meals outside of the Tutoring Center to help maintain a clean working area.
  7. The success of the visit depends on the collaboration between the student and tutor. The tutor will not do the work for the student. Students should come prepared to answer questions and discuss their assignment.
  8. Students should bring notes, books, and any other resources provided by the instructor, as well as the assignment.
  9. Students should respect the tutors. They circulate to assist students as soon as possible. If a student is waiting for help, the student needs to work on something else until the tutor can assist.
