Summer Aid Information

  • Returning Students can enroll for summer 2018 beginning March 26, 2018
  • All Students can enroll for summer 2018 beginning April 2, 2018
Summer financial aid is part of the 2017-2018 award year.  Therefore, your summer 2018 aid eligibility will be determined by your 2017-2018 FAFSA.

Enrollment Levels for federal financial aid for any semester (fall, spring or summer)
12+ credit hours Full time Student
9, 10, or 11 credit hour Three Quarter Time Student
6, 7 or 8 credit hours Half Time Student
3, 4 or 5 credit hours Less than Half Time Student
Enrollment in less than 3 credit hours does not qualify for federal financial aid

If you are a current RSC student:

Summer 2018 aid is awarded separately from fall and spring semesters.  Awards are determined by the classes you are registered for and any aid you may have remaining from the academic year.

The RSC Financial Aid Office will review your eligibility for summer 2018 aid after you have enrolled.  You do not need to contact the RSC Financial Aid of your enrollment.  Our office uses an automatic system to identify your summer 2018 enrollment.

You should check your 2018 AID YEAR “TO DO” list and “MESSAGE CENTER” by logging into OASIS to ensure all items requested by the financial aid office have been completed.  You will receive a Financial Aid Notification in your message center if you are eligible for summer 2018 financial aid.

Academic Progress

If you are currently on Financial Aid Warning, a Financial Aid Academic Plan or Financial Aid Probation for the spring 2018 semester, the RSC Financial Aid Office cannot determine eligibility for summer 2018 aid until spring grades have been posted by the RSC Admissions Office.

If you are a new or transfer student:

New students or students that are transferring from other institutions will be reviewed for summer aid after the RSC Financial Aid Office receives your 2017-2018 FAFSA application.

If you are a transfer student, you must submit all official academic transcripts to the RSC Admissions Office before your federal aid eligibility can be determined.

You should check your 2018 AID YEAR “TO DO” list and “MESSAGE CENTER” by logging into OASIS to ensure all items requested by the financial aid office have been completed.  You will receive a Financial Aid Notification in your message center if you are eligible for summer 2018 financial aid.

Pell Grant

NEW Beginning summer 2018, Pell Grant eligible students can receive up to 150% of their scheduled Pell award each year. What does this mean for you? If you were a Pell eligible student in fall 2017 and/or spring 2018, you may qualify for a Pell Grant for summer 2018.

To be eligible for a summer Pell Grant, you must:

  • Have completed a 2017-2018 FAFSA with RSC School Code
  • Be Pell Grant eligible
  • Enroll in summer classes. Enrollment in only the interim session does not qualify for any type of federal financial aid.
  • *In some cases, there is a requirement to enroll at least half-time (6+ credits) to be eligible for a Pell Grant
  • Be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Have lifetime Pell Grant eligibility remaining

Check your Pell Lifetime Eligibility

You can check for your remaining Pell grant eligibility level online by logging on to National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) using your FSA ID. View your Pell Lifetime Eligibility Units (LEU) on the Financial Aid Review page.

  • * Minimum Credits for Summer Pell Grant
  • If you enrolled full-time(12+ credits) and received the full-time Pell Grant amount for fall 2017 and spring 2018, you must enroll at least half-time (6+ credits) in summer classes to receive a summer Pell Grant.

An example of how Year-Round Pell (YRP) works

  • A student with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $0 is eligible for $5920 in Pell grant for the year, or $2960 for the fall semester and $2960 for the spring semester.
  • Under the YRP program, this student could receive an additional $2960 for the summer semester if they enrolled full-time (12 credits).
  • If the student enrolls half-time (six credits) summer semester, the student would receive a $1480 Federal Pell Grant for summer, or one-half of a full award.

Census Dates

  • The census date for the summer 2018 first 4-week and 8-week sessions is June 11, 2018.
  • The census date for student enrolled in the summer 2018 second 4-week session only is July 11, 2018.
  • Any classes added after the census date are not eligible for additional Pell Grant funds.

Book Charges

  • Book charges for Pell Grant recipients will begin approximately one week before classes start and will end on the census date.
  • Tuition and Fees will be paid from your Pell Grant first and any remaining amount may be available as a book charge in the RSC Bookstore.
  • Book charges are not available against student loan funds.

Summer Loans

  • Many students use their full loan eligibility over the fall and spring semesters, leaving nothing available for summer. If possible, students should reserve some of their annual federal loan eligibility for the summer.
  • You must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours that cover an 8-week period to be eligible for a student loan during the summer semester. If you are enrolled in two different summer sessions, your loan will be applied to your account when you begin attendance in at least 6 credit hours.
  • Enrollment in the interim session does not count toward the 6 credit hour requirement.
  • ALL summer loans must be disbursed in TWO equal disbursements.
